   As a Witch living in an urban environment, I've come to find that a large part of City Magic is the inherent Synchronicity that results from such concentrated activity.  The key to harnessing this synchronistic energy for one's benifit is simply a matter of actively acknowledging it.

   Synchronicity can be defined as the recognizable pattern of universal forces resulting from the metaphysical connection of all things.  As the energy of the Maya (borrowing from Eastern terminology) reacts to itself internally essential geometric patterns occur across reality.  A Witch, clued into these higher energies, is able to ride this synchronistic phenomenon in a similar way that long-time city dwellers have an almost intuitive understanding of their city's mass transit system:  By experience and regular use.  The similarties to Synchronistic Magic and Public Transportation do not end there.  Just like riding the subway, riding the synchronistic rail involves a degree of surrender and trust.  Sell your figurative car and expect the Universal MTA to get you there on time.

   Here is an initial exercise for tapping in to your own city's Synchronicity:  Start by personifying the spirit of your city.  Spend a free day wandering your city sans destination, preferably in a neighborhood you're not entirely familiar with.  Become hyper-aware of your own needs on this journey.  Do you need some water?  Are you hungry?  Maybe you need a place to find some cheap, comfortable shoes.  Envision the spirit of the area as a person.  Ask the city for its advice.  Open your mind and expect an answer.  Before you know it you'll trip on a sidewalk crack right in front of a bodega selling bottled water on the cheap.  You may overhear a couple waiting for the bus talking about the greatest lunch place just around the corner.  Someone will bump into you on the way to her job, compliment your footwear and tell you that the thrift shop on the next block has the best vintage kicks.

   Tune yourself into Synchronicity and a city will always provide.  Its the Urban Witch's most basic magical tool.  Its a spell that once cast requires little maintanence as the energy of urban activity fuels it and strengthens it: The original Perpetual Motion Machine.  

Before using them in magic, stones should be "charged" or "programmed" with energy.  this is done simply by holding the stone in your projective hand (usually the right, but the left for lefties), visualizing your magical need, and pouring energy out from your body into the stone.

This energy is personal power.  It resides within all of us.  We can move this energy from our bodies out into stones, candles, metals, and other objects to help us achieve our magical goals.  The movement of this or other forms of natural energy is at the heart of magic.

See the power flowing out from your body, through your porjective hand, and into the stone.  Charge it with the energy of your magicla need - love, money, power, health.

When you know that the stone is vibrating with your personal power, the charging is complete.  This simple process, performed before each ritual, will greatly enhanc ethe effects of your stone magic.
